MYAH – A Tripawd-Goldendood's Story
23 Apr 2016

They said, “Three weeks and you’ll be amazed.”

Author: myah | Filed under: Read the POSTS!

Sure I had been affirming, manifesting, praying, and just plain telling myself; That Myah would be her amazing self in only three weeks after her amputation. However, I am aware that those types of pawsitive actions not only serve to help you through difficult times, they help you to keep pawsitive. Sometimes the best scenarios do prevail, other times we are challenged to deal with the results we end up with.

So I am elated that Myah has been true to my mantras!

OK, its time for more collages!

As Myah has progressed with her recovery, she has spent much more time resting after each accomplishment.  Myah has always been extremely partial to two things: Stuffed animal friends, and kids.  In this collage, I include a photo of Myah with a little girl she had never met before. While her mommy was shopping, this sweetie ‘fell’ for Myah.  Myah was up playing with her at first, but she knew it was time to lay back down. So the little girl just laid down with her. ♥  …The other candid shots are Myah with her less sentient friends.  The photo, with the toys completely covering her, is the only time those animals were manually set on top of her.  (Myah has always just kept still if you cover her with any soft toys, or a blanket.)  Although I did ‘stage’ the monkey a bit in the top-left-photo. It was already snuggled next to her, I just scooched it a bit more upright. She carries a stuffy with her and often uses it as a pillow or bolster when she lays down. She’s also not afraid to snuggle up to one that is already laying there, and has been known to tuck her face under one of them.

On day 21, I took Myah for her first bath. It went very well! She behaved extra well [still] for it, possibly because she couldn’t very easily get up and put her two front paws in the edge of the tub. (Which, to my dismay, is her preferred way to stand for the baths, especially for the drying portion.)  However she did get up there with her one foot, after I disconnected her from the tether, just before I lifted her out. (sorry no photo)

first tripawd bath

She looks pretty good without the shirt on. So the after her lunchtime bath and next day, I tried her at the store without the t-shirt.  At one point, she did start licking at one area. So I covered it with a 4×4 inch piece of gauze. Most surprising was that I don’t think her scar looked too graphic for the customers. I was surprised at how it took a few people a little longer to figure out she was a tripawd. A few people would see the shaved hair section, and then ask what type of surgery she had.

VIDEO!

I noticed that Myah always wanted to ‘run’ a little bit, every time I took her outside to take care of business. So in the early afternoon, I held her back from running until she had relieved herself.  Then I took her harness off, and used it as a point for her to run to. (something I taught her to do as a pup.) I put her on a ‘sit-stay’ and videoed her running over to it. I was so impressed that I had her do it again, and I set my iPhone to the slo-mo feature.  That really turned out COOL!

enjoy:

Especially in slo-mo, you can see how much she is enjoying running. Her ‘form’ while doing her tripawd-trot, looks as if she’s been doing it for months!  …and Yes, she was tired after this, but it only took about 90 minutes of rest, and she started greeting customers again!  At this point in her recovery, I’ve been allowing her to ‘run’ for a short bit, about twice a day.
